WHAT IS PRISTIQ? 

Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine) is a prescription antidepressant drug that helps with the treatment of the major depressive disorder (MDD). It belongs to a drug class called serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI), which works by blocking the reuptake of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain. Some disorders that can also be treated by SNRIs like Pristiq: are anxiety and chronic (long term) pain.  

PRISTIQ PRECAUTIONS 

Before taking Pristiq, contact a healthcare professional if you are allergic to the ingredients of this medication or have any other allergies. If you have a family history or a medical condition that includes one or more of the following, tell your healthcare professional.

Pediatric patients are at an increased risk of specific side effects of this drug, such as loss of appetite and weight loss. Monitor the children’s weight and height regularly if they take this medication.  

This medication must only be administered at extreme necessity during pregnancy. It may harm an unborn baby and cause Pristiq’s withdrawal symptoms, such as feeding and breathing difficulties, seizures or convulsions, constant crying, and muscle stiffness.  

This medication passes into breastmilk and may cause harm to a nursing baby, so inform your healthcare provider if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.  

PRISTIQ SIDE EFFECTS 

The common side effects of Pristiq include: nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, anxiety, weight loss, constipation, dry mouth, loss of appetite, blurred vision, nervousness, excessive sweating, decreased sex drive, impotence, and sleep problems. Stop taking Pristiq and call your doctor to seek medical attention if you start experiencing:

PRISTIQ DOSAGE

For the treatment of the major depressive disorder (MDD), the recommended dose is 50 mg, taken orally once daily. Dosage can be raised up to 400 mg once daily, but there has been no additional benefit reported. Less than 50 mg once daily has been reported to cause increased side effects. 

Take the prescription tablet as soon as you remember if you miss a dose. However, it is almost time for the next scheduled dose for your condition, skip the missed dose and take the next one. Don’t take a double dose of this medication to make up for the missed dosage.  

In the event of an overdose, or if you are suffering overdose symptoms like fainting or difficulties breathing, call 911 and get medical help right away.
