Product Details

Aldactone (Spironolactone) is a prescription medication that is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic. It is a water pill and it works by preventing your body from absorbing too much salt and it also keeps your potassium levels from getting too low. The recommended dose of Spironolactone for adults ranges from 25 mg to 400 mg daily depending on the condition being treated.

Aldactone Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects may include diarrhea and abdominal cramping, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, high potassium levels, irregular menstrual cycles or bleeding after menopause, itching, leg cramps, and nausea and vomiting. The serious side effects may include:
• Extreme thirst;
• Fast heart rate and dizziness;
• Growth of breast tissue in males and females;
• Mouth dryness;
• Muscle weakness;
• Slow heart rate;
• Tingling or numb feeling in your hands or feet

You should not take Aldactone if you are allergic to Spironolactone or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. This medication may increase your potassium levels. Limit foods that are hight in potassium such as bananas, tomatoes and potatoes. Aldactone may make you dizzy or drowsy. You should not drive or do any activity that requires you to be alert. Limit your alcoholic beverages. This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. Spironolactone passes into breast milk but it may not harm a nursing infant. There may be an interaction between Aldactone and other medications such as alcohol, atorvastatin, alfuzosin, brimonidine, ciprofloxacin, cyclosporine, digoxin, duloxetine, levodopa, lithium, quetiapine, risperidone, tacrolimus, etc.
