Dosage

Usage

Pennsaid (Diclofenac topical solution) is a prescription medication for treating pain, swelling, and inflammation due to knee osteoarthritis (s) or rheumatoid arthritis. The active ingredient in Pennsaid is Diclofenac. Diclofenac belongs to the class of medication called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). It reduces pain and swelling and helps improve your ability to move and flex the joints.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Pennsaid are redness of the skin, skin irritation, and dryness of the skin.

Stop using Pennsaid and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Intestinal bleeding or passage of bloody stool;
• Severe skin itching;
• Skin disorders such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis;
• Syncopal attack or severe dizziness;
• Worsening of symptoms

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Pennsaid topical solution, inform your doctor if you have an open wound or infection at the affected joint. Pennsaid is a topical cream that should be applied to dry, normal skin. You should use the cream as directed by your doctor. Pour ten drops in your hand or directly on the knee and apply it evenly on the front, back, and sides of the knee. Repeat this four times daily and allow the skin to dry for several minutes. You may repeat this same method for the other knee if needed. After the application, thoroughly wash your hands. Depending on the treated condition, it may be used regularly or only as required. Do not wrap, bandage, or apply heat (such as a heating pad) on the treated area unless your doctor instructs you.

Before you start using Pennsaid, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Asthma or other allergies;
• Bleeding disorder;
• History of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease;
• Peptic ulcer disease;
• An open wound or infected skin area

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or nursing a baby. During pregnancy, Aceclofenac may affect the baby because it inhibits prostaglandin, which may affect the baby's development, causing premature closure of the ductus arteriosus, pulmonary hypertension, and renal dysfunction. Therefore, you should avoid using Aceclofenac as a nursing mother unless the potential benefits outweigh the possible risks to the baby. Discuss with your doctor before using Aceclofenac if you are breastfeeding a baby. There may be a drug interaction between Pennsaid and other drugs such as aspirin, warfarin, lithium, zidovudine, and digoxin.
