Starlix (Nateglinide) is a prescription medication used to treat adults with type 2 diabetes caused by age, family history, inactivity, or obesity. The active ingredient in Starlix is Nateglinide. Nateglinide belongs to the class of medications called meglitinides. It works by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin for a short period of time, like 4 to 5 hours, to cover mealtimes. Nateglinide controls high blood sugar, preventing blindness, kidney damage, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. The drug reduces the risk of stroke or heart attack. Nateglinide is not used to treat type 1 diabetes. This medicine is used with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar. Starlix may be used alone or with other medication.
