Apri Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Apri from New Zealand also called Marvelon manufactured by MSD. The generic version is not available. Our customers may also purchase other Contraceptives such as Norlevo and Nexplanon. For more information and further assistance, please call Customer Service at 1866.920.3784

Dosage

Apri is available in the strength of 0.15 mg/0.03 mg 28 day tablets only.

Usage

Apri (Desogestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol) is a combined prescription medication used to prevent pregnancy among women of reproductive age. Apri may also be taken to regulate the menstrual cycle in women with irregular menstrual cycles. The active ingredients in Apri tablets are Desogestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol. Apri belongs to the class of medication called Oral contraceptives, estrogen, and progestin combination. It works by preventing the release of eggs from the ovaries and causes changes in the cervix's mucus, making it difficult for sperm to penetrate and prevent implantation. However, using an Apri tablet does not prevent you from contracting sexually transmitted infections such as HIV/AIDs, syphilis, and gonorrhea through unprotected sexual intercourse.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Apri are nausea, vomiting, breast pain or swelling, headache, abdominal pain, and weight changes.

Stop using Apri and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Abnormal vaginal bleeding and discharge;
• Loss of sexual interest or libido;
• Recurrent vaginal infection such as candidiasis;
• Severe headache or migraine;
• Severe breast pain or discharge;
• Severe weight gain

Warnings and Interactions

Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you are allergic to estrogens such as ethinyl estradiol, mestranol, or progestins (such as Desogestrel) or have any other allergies. Apri is a tablet and should be taken orally with a cup of water, usually once daily. Follow your doctor's directions carefully and use them strictly as prescribed. To reduce the risk of nausea and vomiting, your doctor may ask you to take your pill with food. Take this medication simultaneously daily and in the order directed on the package. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. For example, take one tablet daily for 21 days, take one "reminder" pill daily for seven days, and then begin the next pack. Your doctor may recommend starting the Apri tablet on the first day of your menstrual period. It may be advisable to use a barrier method of contraceptives such as latex condoms for the first seven days of the first cycle of pill use. Discuss with your doctor if you experience intermenstrual bleeds or worsening side effects.

Before you start using Apri, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have the following:
• Breast diseases or breast cancer;
• Heart diseases such as heart failure, hypertension;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Undiagnosed vaginal bleeds

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Hormonal contraceptives such as Apri should not be used during pregnancy. If you have just given birth or had a pregnancy loss or abortion after the first three months, discuss with your doctor about reliable forms of birth control, and find out when it is safe to start using birth control that contains a form of estrogen, such as Apri tablets. This medication may decrease breast milk production. Desogestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. A drug interaction may exist between Apri and other drugs, such as cabotegravir and fezolinetant. Store your pills in a safe, secure place away from the children's reach.
