How Finasteride Works
Finasteride works by reducing the DHT, the main cause of hair loss, by inhibiting the formation of DHT in your scalp. DHT is a substance in the body that can shrink the hair follicles until it no longer produces visible hair. The medication starts to work within three months of beginning the treatment. It works by preventing further hair loss and promoting new hair growth.
Generic Propecia vs Brand Propecia
When comparing the brand propecia to the generic Propecia there are no chemical or therapeutic differences. The chemical (Finasteride) is the exact same in both, and thus creates the exact same results and metabolizes the same way inside of the body. Doctors were actually prescribing generic Finsteride before Merk had patented the brand. The only difference in the generic Propecia is that it will not be manufactured by Merk, but will be made by a generic manufacturer; we primarily use Cipla as our generic manufacturer. We currently have the brand that comes from Turkey manufactured by Merck and the generic comes from India. The generic may come under the alternate name finpecia or finasteride.
