Usage

Fosrenol (Lanthanum Carbonate) is a prescription medication used to lower phosphate levels in patients with end-stage kidney disease. The kidneys help the body maintain a relatively constant level of phosphorus in the body. People with kidney problems may be unable to remove phosphate from their bodies, leading to a condition known as hyperphosphatemia. High phosphate levels in the body make it hard for the body to absorb calcium, leading to serious medical problems. The active substance in Fosrenol is Lanthanum Carbonate. Lanthanum Carbonate belongs to a class of medication called phosphate binders. It works by preventing the absorption of phosphates from food by binding to the phosphate. The phosphate then passes out of your body in your stool.
