Usage

Gemzar (Gematabine HCL) is a prescription medication used with either carboplatin or paclitaxel to treat different types of cancer including cancer of the biliary tract, breast, lung, ovarian, and pancreatic cancer. The active ingredient in Gemzar is Gematabine HCL. Gematabine hydrochloride belongs to the group of medications called antineoplastics, antimetabolites It works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Gemzar are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, temporary hair loss, constipation, injection site pain and mouth sores.

Stop using Gemzar and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Sudden onset of chest pain;
• Severe headache;
• Trouble speaking and development of sudden weakness in one side of the body;
• Vision changes

Your doctor will order certain lab tests before and during your treatment to check your body's response to gemcitabine. Before you start using Gemzar, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Lung diseases;
• Skin cancer;
• Undergone radiation therapy

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements.
