Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) is used to treat different types of bacterial infections such as chest infections including pneumonia, skin and bone infections. It may also be used to treat people who have been exposed to anthrax or certain types of plague. Ciprofloxacin belongs to a class of drugs known as quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This medication should only be used for infections that cannot be treated with other antibiotics. Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.
