Product Details
Flonase (Fluticasone propionate) is a nasal spray which is used to treat seasonal allergic rhinitis including hay fever, and perennial rhinitis. This medication may also be used to manage sinus pain and pressure. It is a steroid medication which helps to decrease the inflammation within the nasal passages. Flonase does not give instant relief. It should be used regularly to get the full benefit. You will get maximum relief after 2 to 3 days of treatment. For seasonal rhinitis, start the treatment before exposure to the allergens if possible.

Flonase may cause side effects which are fairly common. These include back pain, dryness, irritation, headache, sinus pain, sore throat, and minor nosebleed. Call you doctor for medical help if you have serious side effects such as:
• Blurred vision, eye pain
• Chills, fever
• Nausea, vomiting, weakness
• Running nose or noisy breathing
• Severe or ongoing nosebleeds that won’t stop

You should not use Flonase if you are allergic to Fluticasone nasal or if you are taking ritonavir. Flonase should not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients, and in patients with untreated fungal, bacterial or tuberculosis infections of the respiratory tract. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. Flonase can lower blood cells that help your body fight infections. You should avoid coming into contact with measles or chickenpox while taking Flonase. Steroid medicines may increase the glucose levels in your blood or urine; inform your doctor if you have diabetes. It is unknown whether Flonase will harm an unborn baby. It is not known whether Fluticasone passes into breast milk of if it could harm a nursing baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. This medication is not recommended for children younger than 4 years old.

Questions and Answers
1. Can you please tell me the difference between Flonase and Nasacort AQ?
Answer: Flonase (Fluticasone) and Nasacort AQ (triamcinolone) are both in a class of medications called corticosteroids. They work by preventing and decreasing inflammation in the nasal passages and sinuses to help control your symptoms. The only difference between Flonase and Nasacort is that they contain differrent steroids. The effects will be the same for most patients taking them.

2. How long can I safely use Flonase?
Answer: Intranasal steroid sprays are safe for long term use; however patients with chronic rhinitis who might use them for long periods should use them at the lowest dose that controls their symptoms.
