Usage

CeeNU is used in treatment of brain tumors, both primary (developed in brain) and metastatic (spread from another source), and hodgkin's disease lymphoma. It has also been used along with other agents to treat malignant melanoma, lung and breast cancer. CeeNU belongs to class of drugs called alkylating agents and acts by killing the cancer cells and stops them from dividing. Take the medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It should be taken with fluids on an empty stomach; no food or drink for 2 hours after to decrease incidence of nausea and vomiting. The amount of CeeNU that you will receive depends on your height and weight, your general health or other health problems, and the type of cancer or condition being treated. Your doctor will determine your dose and schedule.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects may include loss of hair, stomatitis, low blood count, bone marrow suppression, nausea, and vomiting. Some serious side effects include:

• Bleeding and bruising more easily;

• Infections, fever, severe chills, sore throat or mouth ulcers;

• Liver disease with symptoms such as weakness, tiredness, confusion, yellowing of the eyes and skin, loss of appetite, weight loss and stomach pain;

• Lack of coordination or unsteady when walking, difficulty speaking;

• Passing little or no urine, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, headache and breathlessness;

• Shortness of breath or change in breathing, cough, unusual tiredness;

• Tiredness, dizziness, headache, fast heart rate

Warnings and Interactions

Use contraception, and do not get pregnant while taking lomustine. Barrier methods of contraception, such as condoms, should be used. Discuss with your doctor when you may safely become pregnant or conceive a child after therapy. You should not take CeeNU if you: are allergic to Lomustine. Do not take CeeNU if you have, or have had these medical conditions, unless you have discussed it with your doctor: blood disorder, liver problems, kidney problems, lung disease, heart problems , any other cancer, lowered immunity due to treatment with medicines such as corticosteroids, cyclosporin or other medicines used to treat cancer, have high temperature or infection, have recently undergone surgery. CeeNU is not recommended for use during pregnancy. CeeNU may affect your developing baby if you take it during pregnancy. CeeNU passes into breast milk and therefore there is a possibility that the breast-fed baby may be affected. Tell your doctor, nurse, about all the medicines you take, including drugs prescribed by other doctors, vitamins, minerals, natural supplements, or alternative medicines. CeeNU when used in combination with other drugs or radiation therapy may further depress your immune system.
