Linzess Information
Linzess (Linaclotide) is used to treat chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC), or chronic irritable bowl syndrome with constipation as the main symptom (IBS-C). Linzess may improve stool texture and lessen symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain/discomfort, straining, and feelings of incomplete bowel movements. Linzess works by elevating certain chemicals in the intestines that increase the secretion or chloride and bicarbonate, which in turn increases intestinal fluid and accelerates transit through the digestive system. You should not use Linzess if you are allergic to linaclotide, or if you have a blockage in your intestines. Linzess should not be given to a child younger than 6 years old, as it can cause severe dehydration. It is not known if Linzess will harm an unborn baby, or if it will pass into breastmilk. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding, to discuss any possible risks. Tell your doctor about any other medications you are currently taking in order to reduce the risk of interactions. If you experience any serious side effects, signs of an electrolyte imbalance, or signs of an allergic reaction, stop using Linzess and seek emergency medical attention.
