Tradjenta (Linagliptin) is used with a diet and exercise program to reduce blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It works by escalating levels of natural substances called incretins. Incretins assist in controlling blood sugar by boosting insulin release, mainly after a meal. They also reduce the amount of blood sugar your liver produces.

Tradjenta can be taken with or without food once a day. In the event that you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If you cannot remember until it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal schedule. DO NOT double dose. Only take 1 per day as required by your healthcare professional. Your specialist may instruct you to take Tradjenta alongside different diabetes medications. Low blood sugar can occur more frequently when Tradjenta is used with certain other diabetes medications, such as sulfonylurea or insulin. Converse with your doctor about all the medicines you consume, including prescription and non-prescription medications, vitamins and herbal supplements as there may be interactions between Tradjenta and other medications such as rifampin, antidiabetic agents, CYP3A4 inducers, etc. Speak with your doctor if you are allergic to any of the inactive ingredients contained inside Tradjenta. Also talk with your medical professional about your medical history especially of disease of the pancreas, stones in your gallbladder, and heart failure. Limit alcohol while using this medication, as it increases risk of developing low blood sugar. It may be harder to control blood sugar while you are highly stressed. Consult with your doctor because increased stress may require a change in treatment plan, medications, or blood sugar testing. Speak with your doctor about using this medication while in pregnancy.

The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
