Indications

Diamox, also known as Acetazolamide, is a medication that is used for several medical purposes. Diamox is commonly used to treat glaucoma, epileptic seizures, heart failure-induced edema, and drug-induced edema, and is used to reduce intraocular pressure after surgery.

In addition, it is used to treat acute mountain sickness by reducing the build-up of a protein called carbonic anhydrase, which is involved in the formation of hydrogen ions and bicarbonate from carbon dioxide and water.

Use and Dosage

Acetazolamide can work less well over time, so it is usually used only for a short period. It has been used with other medications to treat certain types of seizures (petit mal and unlocalized seizures).

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
