What is Levoxyl used for?

Levoxyl, with the generic name levothyroxine sodium, is an oral medication that replaces primary, secondary, and tertiary congenital or acquired hypothyroidism. It is also being prescribed for pituitary thyrotropin suppression among patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer.

This is available in Levoxyl 0.05 mg, 0.100 mg, 0.150 mg, and 0.200 mg tablets.

How does Levoxyl work?

This thyroid hormone replacement controls DNA transcription and protein synthesis. T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (L-thyroxine) diffuse in the cell nucleus. Then, bind to thyroid receptor proteins that are attached to DNA.
