Product Details
Tarceva (Erlotinib) is a cancer medication that is used to treat lung cancer. It may also be used with another medication to treat pancreatic cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. Erlotinib belongs to the class of medications known as kinase inhibitors. It works by slowing the growth of cancer cells. Tarceva is usually prescribed after the other medications have been tried without success. This medication should not be used by people with EGFR-negative tumors. The recommended daily dose of Erlotinib is 150mg taken once daily. It should be taken at least one hour before you eat, or at least two hours after you eat.

Tarceva Side Effects and Precautions
The common Tarceva side effects may include diarrhea, dry skin, eye dryness or irritation, loss of appetite, mouth sores, nausea, and unusual growth of eyelashes. The serious side effects may include:
• Black stools;
• Changes in vision;
• Dark urine;
• Easy bleeding or bruising;
• Pain in the eye;
• Stomach or abdominal pain;
• Unusual fatigue;
• Vomiting that looks like coffee grounds;
• Yellowing of eyes or skin

You should not take Tarceva if you are allergic to Erlotinib or if you have any other allergies. Before taking Tarceva, inform your doctor about your medical history and if you have lung problems, kidney or liver disease, if you smoke or are dehydrated. You should avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. You should not take Tarceva if you are pregnant as it could harm the unborn baby or cause a miscarriage. It is unknown whether Erlotinib passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while taking Tarceva. Limit alcoholic beverages because it may increase your risk of stomach bleeding. You should stop smoking while taking this medication because cigarette smoking decreases the blood levels of this medication. You should not drink grapefruit juice while taking this medication. There may be an interaction between Tarceva and other medications such as amiodarone, imatinib, live vaccines, metronidazole, itraconazole, carbamazepine, proton pump inhibitors, cyclosporine, simvastatin, tacrolimus, digoxin, sertraline, warfarin, etc.
