Deltasone Uses

Deltasone, with the generic name prednisone, is an oral medication indicated to treat various conditions, such as endocrine disorders, rheumatoid disorders, collagen diseases, dermatologic diseases, allergic states, ophthalmic diseases, respiratory diseases, hematologic disorders, neoplastic diseases, edematous states, gastrointestinal diseases, multiple sclerosis, trichinosis, and tuberculous meningitis. This medication is generally used to reduce inflammation and to address allergic-type reactions.

Deltasone tablets are available in the following strengths: Deltasone 20 mg, 50 mg, 10 mg, 1 mg, 5 mg, and 2.5 mg.

Deltasone Mechanism of Action

This Gluc corticosteroid reduces inflammation by inhibiting the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and reversing enhanced capillary permeability. It also suppresses the immune system via reduction of the activity and the volume of the immune system. It also exhibits antiemetic and antineoplastic effects.

How to use Deltasone

Before using this drug, read the medication information leaflet that comes with this product. Do not use Deltasone without fully understanding the drug information and precautions printed in the guide. If you have further queries on this treatment or need medical advice, you may ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this tablet orally. This prescription medication should be taken with a meal to prevent an upset stomach. Swallow the tablet and drink a full glass or 240 mL of water right after. If this medication is prescribed once daily, make sure to take it in the morning, before 9 A.M.

Remember to take Deltasone exactly as directed and with a dosing schedule to achieve the best results. Do not alter your dosing, frequency, and length of treatment as it depends on your medical condition and response to treatment. This is because some conditions may impact how you will respond to the medication. Further, you should talk about all the supplements, herbal products, nonprescription drugs, and prescription drugs you are taking because of possible drug interactions.

Be watchful for an allergic reaction while having this medication. Do not take this prescription drug if you have a known allergy to prednisone or any inactive ingredients each tablet may contain. Signs of severe hypersensitivity are severe dizziness, skin rashes, swelling of the face, hives, and breathing trouble. If you experience these symptoms, discontinue medication and seek emergency help.

This type of medication may cause immunosuppression and make you more likely to get an infection or worsen any current infection. You should always observe personal hygiene and wash your hands well. Also, avoid contact with people who have an infection or were recently vaccinated or immunized.

Alcohol may interact with prednisone and increase the risk of stomach bleeding. Avoid or limit your intake of alcoholic drinks. This could also lessen the chances of some adverse effects like dizziness from occurring.

Do not get vaccinated or immunized, especially with live-attenuated vaccines, while on this treatment. Vaccines may not work well for people who are taking prednisone.

Pregnant moms must avoid this medication because of the possible harm that it may cause to unborn babies. For breastfeeding moms, use this drug only if clearly necessary. This drug may pass into breast milk but may not cause harm to breastfed children.
