Nitoman (Tetrabenazine) is used for the treatment of tics or for Tourette’s syndrome. It may also be used for Huntington’s disease for the treatment of tardive dyskinesia. Tetrabenazine belongs to the class of medications called vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) inhibitors. This medication works by decreasing the amount of certain natural substances in the brain such as dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine, which is involved with nerve and muscle function. You may be able to live a normal life by reducing the uncontrolled movements. Nitoman is usually taken once a day in the morning with or without food.
