Indications

Lipidil Supra, which contains fenofibrate microcoated, is used to treat certain types of high cholesterol and high triglyceride levels in the blood.

Use and Dosage

The usual adult dose of microcoated fenofibrate is 160 mg daily with the main meal. The maximum recommended dose is 200 mg daily. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

For people with reduced kidney function, the starting dose is 100 mg once daily with the main meal. This starting dose may be gradually increased if there are no side effects until the desired effect is reached.

Many things can affect the dose of a medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Store this medication at room temperature, protect it from light and moisture, and keep it out of the reach of children.

Do not dispose of medications in wastewater (e.g. down the sink or in the toilet) or in household garbage. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medications that are no longer needed or have expired.

Side Effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to fenofibrate (hives, difficulty breathing, swelling in your face or throat) or a severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, burning in your eyes, skin pain, a red or purple skin rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling).

In rare cases, fenofibrate can cause a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, leading to kidney failure. Call your doctor right away if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness especially if you also have a fever, unusual tiredness, or dark-colored urine.

Also, call your doctor at once if you have:

  • Sharp stomach pain spreading to your back or shoulder blade
  • Loss of appetite, stomach pain just after eating a meal
  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
  • Fever, chills, weakness, sore throat, mouth sores, unusual bruising or bleeding
  • Chest pain, sudden cough, wheezing, rapid breathing, coughing up blood
  • Swelling, warmth, or redness in an arm or leg

Common fenofibrate side effects may include:

  • Runny nose, sneezing
  • Abnormal laboratory tests

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur.
