Phenergan Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Phenergan (Histantil) from Canada manufactured by Pendopharm Pharmascience. The generic Promethazine comes from India from another manufacturer. Our customers may also purchase other Allergy Medications such as EpiPen and Reactine. For more information and further assistance, please call Customer Service at 1866.920.3784.

Dosage

The brand Phenergan is available in the strength of 50 mg tablets only. The generic Promethazine is available in the strength of 10 mg and 25 mg tablets.

Usage

Phenergan (Promethazine) is a prescription medication used to treat the symptoms of allergic conditions, including nausea, vomiting, motion sickness, pre-and post-operative sedation, and obstetric sedation. It is also used to treat short-term sleep problems (insomnia), including when a cough, cold or itching keeps you awake at night. The active ingredient in Phenergan is promethazine hydrochloride. Promethazine belongs to a group of medicines called phenothiazines. It works by blocking a natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. It also works directly on the brain to help you feel more relaxed. Promethazine helps control symptoms but will not treat the cause of the symptoms or the underlying diseases.

Side Effects and Precautions

Stop using the medication and get medical care if you have an allergic reaction. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects of Phenergan are drowsiness, headaches, nightmares and feeling dizzy, restless or confused.

Stop using Phenergan and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Being more sensitive to the sun than usual;
• Blurred vision;
• Difficulty in passing urine;
• Dry mouth;
• Feeling tired or sleepy, tiredness, disorientation, having nightmares, headaches;
• Feeling restless;
• Feeling dizzy, lightheaded, faint (hypotension);
• Feeling confused, especially in older people;
• Loss of appetite (anorexia), indigestion;
• Unpleasant sensation or an overwhelming urge to move the legs (also called Restless Legs Syndrome)

The above information is a summary and may not contain all the side effect information. If you still have questions about side effects, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist so they can address all your concerns.

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Phenergan, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to promethazine hydrochloride or any other ingredients in Phenergan products. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing any tasks that requires alertness until you know how your body reacts to this medication. To help you sleep, take Promethazine 20 minutes before bed. It usually takes about 30 minutes to work. To prevent motion sickness, take Promethazine the night before a long journey or 1 to 2 hours before a short journey. Talk to your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition or if it worsens.
