Elidel Cream (Pimecromlimus) is an immunosuppressant used to treat severe atopic dermatitis (eczema). It works by decreasing the body’s immune system response, which slows the growth of eczema on the skin. It is typically prescribed when other medications have been ineffective. The usual recommended start dose is 1%/30gm cream.

Stop taking Elidel Cream and call your doctor at once if you have one of these serious side effects:

• Body aches;
• Chills;
• Fever;
• Flu symptoms
• New symptoms of viral skin infection:
o Blistering or oozing
o Burning pain
o Tingling
o Unusual rash or skin lesions
o Warts
• Severe burning of treated skin;
• Sore throat;
• Swollen glands;
• Worsening skin symptoms

Less serious side effects of Pimecromlimus may include mild burning or warmth of treated skin, headache, cold symptoms (stuffy or runny nose), swollen hair follicles, acne or warts, burning, stinging, tingling, or soreness of treated skin, upset stomach, muscle pain, or sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures.

Elidel Cream should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Talk to your doctor about your medical history to be sure you can safely take Elidel Cream. Particularly if you have a history of kidney disease, skin cancer, any type of skin infection, Netherton’s syndrome, a weak immune system, swelling, redness, or irritation over large skin areas. You should not take Elidel Cream if you are allergic to Pimecromlimus or if you have a bacterial or viral skin infection. It is not known whether or not this medication will harm an unborn or nursing infant. You shouldn’t take Elidel Cream while pregnant or nursing without discussing the risks with your doctor. This medication can lower the blood cells that help fight infections in the body, which can make it easier to get sick from viruses. There may be an interaction between Elidel Cream and other medications, some of which include: cimetidine, conivaptan, nefazodone, antibiotics, antifungals, heart or blood pressure medications, hepatitis C medications, HIV/AIDS medications. Talk to your doctor about any medications or herbal supplements you are currently taking.
