Carafate Suspension Information:

Carafate Suspension (Generic name: Sucralfate) is a prescription medication used for short-term treatment (up to 8 weeks) of active duodenal ulcer. Sucralfate is also used for the treatment and prevention of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), stress ulcers, and other conditions as determined by your doctor. Sucralfate is a gastric protective used to protect the stomach from enzyme, acid and bile salts. Take Carafate Suspension as directed by your doctor.

Carafate Suspension Side Effects:

The most common Carafate Suspension side effects include back pain, constipation, dizziness, dry mouth, gas, headache, insomnia, nausea, stomach upset, and vertigo. Serious side effects of Carafate are unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: difficult breathing, itching, rash, and swelling of the face, lips, mouth, or tongue.

Carafate Suspension Precautions:

Do NOT take Carafate oral if you are allergic to Sucralfate or any ingredient in Carafate medication. Do NOT take Carafate Suspension if you have had any medical conditions such as difficult swallowing, kidney disease, stomach/intestine problems. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Carafate drug, especially of: antacids, blood thinner drugs, digoxin, and theophylline.
