Flomax (Tamsulosin) is used to improve urination in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). Tamsulosin belongs to a group of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers. Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck that helps the stream of urine to flow more freely and the bladder to be emptied completely. Tamsulosin does not shrink the prostate gland; therefore, prostate surgery may still be needed if the prostate gland continues to enlarge.

You should not use Flomax if you are allergic to Tamsulosin. Do not take Flomax with other medications such as alfuzosin (Uroxatral), doxazosin (Cardura), prazosin (Minipress), Silodosin (Rapaflo), or terazosin (Hytrin). This medication is not for use in women or children. Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Flomax lowers blood pressure and may cause dizziness and fainting especially when you first start taking it.
