Caltrate is a calcium carbonate mineral used to treat and prevent calcium deficiencies.

Patient Family Information: Read the directions on the prescription label. Do not take larger doses than prescribed by your doctor. Take this medication as directed on the label or by your pharmacist, doctor, or other healthcare provider. Take Caltrate with a full glass of water, and swallow whole. Take with meals. If you are taking the Caltrate chewable, fully chew the tablet before swallowing. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. If a dose is missed when it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on with your regular dosing schedule.

Contraindication: Do not take Caltrate with other medications without consulting with your doctor first.

Sever Side Effects : Severe: Severe allergic reactions including itching, tightness in the chest, rash, hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of the mouth, lips, tongue, or face.

Common: Constipation; urinating more than usual; nausea or vomiting; dry mouth or increased thirst; or decreased appetite.
