Vivelle DOT Uses

Vivelle DOT, with the generic name estradiol, is a transdermal system indicated to treat moderate-severe vasomotor symptoms and vulvar & vaginal atrophy due to menopause. It is also used to treat hypoestrogenism secondary to hypogonadism, primary ovarian failure, or castration. It also prevents postmenopausal osteoporosis.

This is available in Vivelle DOT 0.1 mg/day, 0.075 mg/day, 0.05 mg/day, 0.0375 mg/day, and 0.025 mg/day transdermal system.

Vivelle DOT Mechanism of Action

This estrogen works by reducing the release of luteinizing hormone and gonadotropin-releasing hormone from the hypothalamus and gonadotropin release from the pituitary glands. It also acts by increasing the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and certain proteins in the target tissues. This is because this hormone is mainly responsible for the maintenance and development of the female reproductive system and secondary sexual characteristics.

How to use Vivelle DOT

To begin, read the Vivelle Dot guide or information leaflet that comes with this product. Avoid using this medication unless you have fully understood the drug information and precautions in the guide provided. If you have further inquiries on how to administer this patch or need more medical advice, you can ask your doctor or pharmacist.

This patch should be applied to the lower abdomen, just below the waistline. Do not apply a new patch to the same area for at least a week. Make sure the application site is clean and free from oil, powder, or lotion. Tear the pouch open and peel off the backing of the patch. Apply the sticky side to your selected area. Keep your fingers away from the sticky side. Then, press the patch firmly for about 10 seconds to ensure that it will stay in place.

Remember to use this patch regularly and exactly as directed. Do not alter your Vivelle DOT dosage or length of treatment as it is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.
