Cymbalta (Generic name: Duloxetine Hydrochloride) is an antidepressant medication use to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) and general anxiety disorder (GAD). Cymbalta is also used to treat a chronic pain disorder called fibromyalgia, and to manage diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP). Duloxetine Hydrochloride is a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) sometimes prescribed for the treatment of depression associated with bipolar disorder (manic depression). Duloxetine HCl works by affecting the balance of chemicals in the brain that are associated with depression and nerve pain. Take Cymbalta exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Cymbalta Side Effects
The most common Cymbalta side effects include dry mouth, blurred vision, drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, nausea, insomnia, joint or muscle pain, weight changes or decreased sex drive. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as mood or behaviour changes, anxiety, panic attacks, seizures, trouble sleeping, more depressed, suicidal thoughts and serious allergic reaction (rash, hives, difficult breathing, swelling of the lips, throat or tongue), please inform your doctor immediately.
Cymbalta Precautions
Do NOT take Cymbalta if you are allergic to Duloxetine or to any of the ingredients in Cymbalta medication. Before taking Cymbalta oral, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as liver or kidney problems, epilepsy or seizure, bleeding or blood clotting disorder, diabetes, glaucoma, high blood pressure, bipolar disorder, drug abuse, suicidal or agitated behaviour. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Cymbalta drug, especially of: MAO inhibitors (e.g., monoamine oxidase inhibitors e.g., marplan, nardil, parnate), NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen), SSRIs (e.g., escitalopram, paroxetine, fluvoxamine), triptans (e.g., sumatriptan, rizatriptan), SNRIs (e.g., duloxetine, venlafaxine), and warfarin. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Cymbalta use is approved only for adults 18 and over.
