Procardia XL (Nifedipine) is a calcium channel blocker that is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) or angina (chest pain). Procardia XL works by slowing down the introduction of calcium ions into cardiac muscle and smooth muscle, forcing the muscles to relax. While using Procardia XL, you may experience common side effects such as bloating or swelling of limbs, coughing, difficult or labored breathing, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, headache, muscle cramps, tightness in the chest, trembling or shaking of the hands or feet, or unusual weight gain or loss. If these side effects worsen or persist, consult your doctor. If you experience any serious side effects, seek medical attention immediately.
