Indications

Edarbi is a medication used for the treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults.

Edarbi contains the active ingredient azilsartan medoxomil.

Edarbi is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and works by relaxing blood vessels to help lower blood pressure.

Use and Dosage

Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking azilsartan and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily with or without food. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. Keep taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens (for example, if your blood pressure readings increase).

Side Effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Edarbi: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have:

  • Little or no urination
  • A light-headed feeling, like you might pass out

Common Edarbi side effects may include:

This medication may increase your potassium levels. Before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes that contain potassium, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, including dizziness and change in the amount of urine (kidney problems).

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. You should not become pregnant while using azilsartan. Azilsartan may harm an unborn baby. If you become pregnant, talk to your doctor right away about the risks and benefits of this medication. (See also Warning section.)

It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
