Vytorin Information

Vytorin (Generic name: Ezetimibe and Simvastatin) is a combination medication used to treat high levels of cholesterol in the blood. Vytorin reduces total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein (LDL or "bad") cholesterol, and fatty substances called triglycerides in the blood. In addition, Vytorin raises levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL or "good") cholesterol. Vytorin contains two cholesterol medicines, Ezetimibe (Zetia) and Simvastatin (Zocor). Vytorin works to reduce your cholesterol in two ways. Ezetimibe works by reducing the cholesterol absorbed in your digestive tract. Simvastatin is an enzyme blocker, also known as a “statin”, which reduce the amount of cholesterol that your body makes normally each day. Take Vytorin tablets along with a proper diet.

Vytorin Side Effects

The most common Vytorin side effects are constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, nausea, joint pain, sore throat, and etc. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as easy bruising or bleeding, muscle pain or tenderness, numbness, vision changes, and symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; itching; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.

Vytorin Precautions

Do NOT take Vytorin oral if you are allergic to Ezetimibe (Zetia) or Simvastatin (Zocor) or any of the ingredients in Vytorin medication. Before taking Vytorin, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as diabetes, jaundice, kidney or liver disease, muscle disorder, overactive thyroid, and etc. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Vytorin drug, especially of: antibiotics, anticoagulants, antidepressant, antifungal, HIV drugs, and etc. Vytorin dose is available in the following strengths:

Vytorin 10/10 mg (10 mg Ezetimibe and 10 mg Simvastatin),
Vytorin 10/20 mg (10 mg Ezetimibe and 20 mg Simvastatin),
Vytorin 10/40 mg (10 mg Ezetimibe and 40 mg Simvastatin), and
Vytorin 10/80 mg (10 mg Ezetimibe and 80 mg Simvastatin)
