Description

Generic Name: travoprost

Drug Class: prostaglandin analog

Travatan Eyedrops Uses

Travatan is an ophthalmic prescription solution used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure or IOP. This is prescribed for patients with ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma. It reduces the risk of blindness, vision loss, and nerve damage.

Dosage Forms

This is available in Travatan 0.04 mg/mL ophthalmic solution.

Travatan Eyedrops Mechanism of Action

The precise action of this eyedrop is still unknown. However, it is believed that this selective FP prostanoid receptor agonist can reduce the pressure in the eye by increasing the uveoscleral outflow.

How to Use Travatan Eyedrops

Before using Travatan, it is necessary to read the drug information or patient information leaflet, or medication guide given by a healthcare professional. You must not use any medication unless you have understood the uses and directions. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for further medical advice or additional details.

This is usually prescribed once a day, in the evening. Make a dosing schedule so you will not miss your doses. If you are using other eye medications, make sure that there is at least a 5-minute interval between each dose/ Do not increase/decrease your Travatan Eyedrops dosage or use this solution more frequently than prescribed.

Step-by-step Guide:

  1. Wash your hands properly prior to applying eye medications.
  2. Open the Travatan ophthalmic solution.
  3. In a position comfortable for you, tilt your head back a little.
  4. Pull the lower eyelid of your affected eye down. Hold the bottle directly above your eye with the dropper right above the eyelid. Be careful not to poke your eye with the tip of your dropper.
  5. Look up, then squeeze the bottle gently to release a drop.
  6. Close your eyes in a slow manner and tip your head down a bit. Do not squint or blink for a minute or two. Press the inner corner of your eye in order to prevent the solution from draining.
  7. Recap the bottle and store it correctly.
