Diovan Information
Diovan (Generic name: Valsartan) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Diovan is also used to treat chronic heart failure or to reduce the risk of death after a heart attack in patients who cannot use another type of medication called Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. Valsartan belongs to a class of drugs called Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers. It works by blocking the hormone angiotensin thereby relaxing blood vessels, causing them to widen. High blood pressure reduction helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Diovan may be used alone or in combination with other drugs to treat high blood pressure.
