Usage

Diprosone (Betamethasone Dipropionate) is a prescription topical cream or ointment used to relieve inflammatory symptoms and itch caused by various skin infections such as contact dermatitis, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and senile pruritis. The active ingredient in Diprosone is Betamethasone dipropionate. Betamethasone dipropionate belongs to the class of medications called topical corticosteroids. It works by activating natural substances in the skin to reduce inflammation, swelling, redness, and itching.

Side Effects and Precautions

Stop using the medication and get medical care if you have an allergic reaction. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects of Diprosone are burning, irritation, itching, or dryness that may occur at the application site. Stop using Diprosone and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Generalized folliculitis;
• Lack of healing of skin condition;
• Recurrent skin infections;
• Stretch marks;
• Skin thinning or atrophy;
• Skin discoloration;
• Unwanted hair growth over the application site or the body;
• You feel confused, sleepy, more thirsty or hungry than usual, pee more often, have hot flushes, start breathing quickly, or your breath smells of fruit – these can be signs of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia).

The above information is a summary and may not contain all the side effect information. If you still have questions about side effects, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist so they can address all your concerns.

Warnings and Interactions

Before using betamethasone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, other corticosteroids (such as hydrocortisone, prednisone), or any other allergies. This medicine is for use on the skin only. Do not get it in your eyes, mouth, or vagina. Do not use it on skin areas with cuts, scrapes, or burns. If it does get on these areas, rinse it off right away with water. You must use this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, and do not use it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. Betamethasone is also available as ointments which are thicker and greasier and are better for dry or flaky areas of skin.

You should follow the guide below on how to use your Diprosone cream, lotion, or ointment:
• Wash and dry your hands and then squeeze out the right amount;
• Spread the cream or ointment in a thin layer over the area of irritated skin;
• Carefully smooth it into your skin in the direction that your hair grows;
• Use the cream or ointment on all irritated skin, not just the worst areas;
• Be careful not to get the cream or ointment on broken skin or cuts;
• Wash your hands afterward (unless you are treating the skin on your hands)

Do not use betamethasone skin cream or ointment at the same time as any other creams or ointments, such as a moisturizer or emollient. Wait 30 minutes before using any other skin product after putting on betamethasone cream or ointment. Reach out to your doctor if there is not significant improvement in your condition after regular use of this medication.

Before you start using Diprosone, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Diabetes;
• Glaucoma;
• Liver failure;
• Skin infection caused by viruses, including herpes simplex, vaccinia, and varicella (chickenpox);
• Tuberculosis of the skin;
• Untreated infected skin lesions caused by an infection with fungi or bacteria

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Diprosone products should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. If you become pregnant while using this medication, contact your doctor immediately. It is not known if topical betamethasone dipropionate passes into breast milk. If you are a breastfeeding mother and are using this medication, it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Diprosone and other drugs such as aldesleukin, other topical medications containing corticosteroids, and topical medications with irritating effects.
