How Rivastigimine Works
Exelon (generic name: Rivastigimine) belongs to a family of medications called cholinesterase inhibitors. It is used to treat symptoms of mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease. Rivastigimine helps to prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine, the chemical in the brain associated with learning and memory, which is constantly being degenerated in patients with Alzheimer’s. Exelon can help cognitive function and the ability of patients to perform activities of daily living.
Generic Rivastigimine vs Brand Exelon patch
Brand and generic Rivastigmine are chemically and therapeutically the same. The most significant and apparent difference is the manufacturer; the brand is manufactured by Novartis and the generic is manufactured by a different manufacturer. Rivastigimine Possible side effects

Rivastigimine Precautions

• antipsychotic medications (e.g., aripiprazole, chlorpromazine, haloperidol)
• Anticholinergic medications
• Antispsychotic medications
• Beta-blockers
• Cholinergic medications
• Neuromuscular blocking agents
• Other cholinesterase inhibitors
The patch is to be applied to a clean, dry area of skin free of any irritation or infection. Ideally, place the patch on a relatively flat area of the skin such as the chest, back, or upper arm. Avoid applying the patch to an area where there is hair, powder or oil. Each patch should be changed after 24 hours, applying the patch to a new patch of skin.
Do not use Exelon if you are allergic to Rivastigmine or any of the ingredients in Exelon Patch. Before using Exelon, tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions such as breathing problems, bladder disorder, heart disease, seizures, and stomach problems.
