What is Minivelle?

Minivelle (Estradiol) is a prescription medication that helps with the treatment of symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness/burning/redness/irritation. It can also be used for the prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis or the treatment of ovarian disorders. It belongs to a drug class called Estrogens, which works by penetrating the skin and replacing normally-produced estrogen in the body.

This medication puts you at an increased risk of getting dark areas on your face and skin, called melasma. Avoid contact with direct sunlight for too long, tanning booths, and sunlamps. Always remember to wear sunscreen and protective clothing when going outside.

Being nearsighted and wearing contact lenses puts you at an increased risk of vision problems or trouble wearing your contact lenses. Consult an optometrist for medical advice.

Pediatric patients may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, as it may affect their growth or development. Monitor your child’s growth regularly and consult your doctor for medical advice.

Minivelle Dose

Act in accordance with your healthcare provider’s directions concerning the prescribed dose for your medical condition. Read the medication guide and prescription labels for the drug information and directions in taking this medication. Ask for help from a doctor or pharmacist if you don’t understand the instructions in using this medication.

Minivelle comes in one (1) dosage form, a transdermal patch. We have two dosage strengths available: Minivelle 0.05mg and Minivelle 0.075mg.

The transdermal patch must be applied to clean, dry, unbroken skin on the stomach or buttocks firmly. Do not place the patch on the same area each time you use a new one.

As one of the uses of Minivelle Patch, IVF or in vitro fertilization sometimes requires an estrogen patch to help thicken the lining of the uterus. Consult your healthcare provider about the appropriate dosage.

If you missed a dose of this medication, take the medication patch as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose for your condition, skip the missed dose and take the next one. Don’t take a double dose of Minivelle patch to make up for the missed dosage.

In case you are experiencing fainting or trouble breathing, which are possible symptoms of an overdose, call the local emergency hotline and seek medical attention immediately.

Store this medication at room temperature in a clean, dry place.

Minivelle Patch FAQs

Minivelle vs Vivelle Dot: which is better?

Both medications are used for relieving menopausal symptoms and the prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Both are good choices if you want to avoid taking a pill every day. However, Minivelle must be replaced twice a week, unlike other estrogen patches that must be replaced once a week. Minivelle causes fewer side effects as it is on a lower dose than other estrogen patches. It causes little to no irritation on the skin.

Is there a generic version available for Minivelle?

Yes, a generic version of Minivelle is available on the market.

Is Minivelle a bioidentical?

The estrogen contained in Minivelle is bioidentical estradiol. This plant-based estrogen is identical to the estrogen produced naturally by the body.
