Amerge Information:

Amerge (Naratriptan) is used to treat migraines, headaches, pain and other symptoms of migraines, including sensitivity to light/sound, nausea, and vomiting. Naratriptan belongs to a group of drugs called triptans. This medication works by affecting a certain natural chemical (serotonin) that constricts blood vessels in the brain. It blocks pain pathways, stopping pain signals from being sent to the brain. By treating your migraine promptly, you can get back to normal routine and decrease your need for pain medications. Naratriptan does not prevent future migraines or reduce how often you may get a headache. Amerge will only treat a headache that has already begun. It will not prevent headaches or reduce the number of attacks. Do not take this medication if you are allergic. Talk to your medical professional if you have angina (chest pain), including Prinzmetal angina (coronary vasospasm), have blood vessel disease (e.g. ischemic bowel disease, Raynaud’s syndrome, stroke, transient ischemic attacks [TIAs]), have had a heart attack, have heart disease (e.g., heart valve disease, ischemic heart disease, abnormal heart rhythms, congenital heart disease), have high blood pressure that is severe or not under control, have taken another 5-hydroxytryptamine agonist (i.e., rizatriptan, sumatriptan, zolmitriptan) in the previous 24 hours, have taken ergotamine-containing or ergot-type medications (such as dihydroergotamine, ergotamine, or methysergide) in the previous 24 hours, have certain types of migraine headaches (including hemiplegic, basilar or ophthalmoplegic migraine), have severely reduced kidney function, have severely reduced liver function, or do not have a clear diagnosis of migraine. Take this medication as directed by your doctor. Consult your doctor for any possible side effects and precautions. If you experience any serious side effects, contact your doctor promptly.
