Indications

Tarka is a blood pressure medication used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

This antihypertensive medicine combines trandolapril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, with verapamil, a calcium channel blocker (CCB). Together these drugs lower sitting systolic and diastolic blood pressure thanks to their inhibitory actions.

Combining two antihypertensive agents makes Tarka an effective treatment for high blood pressure in those who don’t respond to monotherapies and who are at higher risk of developing a stroke or heart attack. This medication provides 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure control better than if trandolapril or verapamil were used separately without a major increase in adverse effects.

Uses and Dosage

The dose of Tarka that is prescribed will vary depending on the individual and the severity of their condition being treated. Follow your doctor’s instructions and read packaging labels carefully to ensure the best therapeutic results.

  • Swallow tablets whole
  • Take with food at the same time each day
  • Most adults take 1 to 4mg of trandolapril and 180 to 240mg of verapamil daily
  • Doses may be taken once or twice each day
  • Continue taking Tarka daily as directed, even if you feel well
  • Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat
  • Keep away from children and pets

FAQ

When is the best time to take Tarka?

Tarka should be taken with food or right after eating at the same time each day. Your doctor may recommend taking your dose in the morning to help with absorption. If you take an antacid medication, wait at least 2 hours before or after your Tarka dose to not impede its absorption.

How does Tarka work?

Tarka is an antihypertensive medication that combines the ACE inhibitor trandolapril with the calcium channel blocker verapamil to help lower and control your blood pressure. The medication does this thanks to the inhibitory effects of either drug or is more effective than either one used alone.
