Namenda (Generic name: Memantine Hydrochloride) is a new prescription medication used to treat moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease (AD). Alzheimer's disease causes physical changes in the brain that disrupt the flow of information and interfere with memory, thinking, and behaviour. It does NOT cure Alzheimer's disease (AD). But it improves memory, awareness, and the ability to perform daily functions. Memantine HCl is in a class of medications of cholinesterase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of a certain natural substance in the brain (glutamate) that is believed to be linked to symptoms of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Take Memantine Namenda exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Namenda Side Effects
The most common Namenda side effects are confusion, constipation, dizziness, headache, and tiredness. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, easy bruising or blooding, fainting, fever, increased blood pressure, numbness, unusual weakness, vision changes, or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing, itching, rash, swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Namenda Precautions
Do NOT take Namenda oral if you are allergic to Memantine HCl or any of the ingredients in Namenda medication. Before taking Namenda, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions, especially of: kidney or liver disease, urinary tract infections. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use, especially of: anti-diabetes; anti-seizure; cataracts or glaucoma; diuretic; medicines for bladder, liver or kidney disease, etc. They may interact with Namenda drug.
