CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Zaroxolyn from Canada manufactured by Sanofi Aventis. The generic Metolazone comes from India also called Zytanix by Zydus. Dosage

Zaroxolyn is available in the strength of 2.5 mg tablets only. The generic Metolazone is available in the strength of 2.5 mg and 5 mg tablets.

Usage

Zaroxolyn (Metolazone) is a prescription medicine used to treat excessive fluid accumulation (edema) in people with congestive cardiac failure or renal diseases such as nephrotic syndrome. It is also used in treating hypertension in combination with other antihypertensive medications. The active ingredient in Zaroxolyn is Metolazone. Metolazone belongs to the class of drugs called thiazide-like diuretics. It works by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in distal tubules, causing increased excretion of water (urine) and sodium, potassium, and hydrogen ions. As a result, lowering blood pressure helps prevent complications such as stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Zaroxolyn are dizziness (light-headedness), headaches, muscle cramps, fatigue, joint pain, swelling, chest pain, extremities, edema, orthostatic hypotension, and palpitations.

Stop using Zaroxolyn and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• A light-headed feeling, like you, might pass out;
• Chest pain;
• Chronic abdominal pain that worsens while lying but relieves on leaning forward may point to pancreatitis;
• Easy bruising or bleeding;
• Pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest

Warnings and Interactions

Before you start receiving this medication, it would be best to tell your doctor if you are allergic to Metolazone, sulfa drugs, thiazides, other medications, or any of the ingredients in metolazone tablets. Metolazone comes as a tablet, and you should take it by swallowing. It is usually taken once a day. Take metolazone at around the same time every day. Take metolazone precisely as directed. Do not take more or less of it or more often than your doctor prescribes it.

Your doctor will probably start you on a low dose of Metolazone and gradually increase your dose, depending on your response to this medication. Metolazone controls high blood pressure but does not cure it. So continue to take Metolazone even if you feel well. If you are being treated for high blood pressure, keep using this medicine even if you feel well. High blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medicine for the rest of your life.

Before you start using Zaroxolyn, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• An electrolyte imbalance (such as low levels of potassium or magnesium in your blood);
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Difficulty in urination such as prostate enlargement;
• Gout or Systemic lupus erythematosus;
• Kidney disease;
• Severe Liver disease

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or breastfeed a child. Using Zaroxolyn during pregnancy could cause side effects in the newborn baby, such as blood cell problems or jaundice. In addition, Metolazone can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Therefore, it would be best if you did not breastfeed while treating your hypertension with Zaroxolyn. Consult your doctor for a possible change of your medication or the best possible medical advice. There may be a drug interaction between Zaroxolyn and other drugs such as digoxin, cholestyramine, fentanyl, aspirin, and amiloride.
