Sensipar (Cinacalcet) is a prescription medication used to treat amounts of parathyroid in people who are on long term dialysis for kidney disease, and is also used to treat increased amounts of calcium in people with cancer of the parathyroid gland or with an overactive parathyroid gland that cannot be treated surgically. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as calcimimetics. It works by decreasing the amount of parathyroid hormone, calcium, and phosphorus in your body.

The common side effects of Sensipar may include diarrhea, decreased appetite, fatigue, headache, low blood pressure, nausea, tingling in the arms, hands, legs, or feet, and vomiting.
Contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:
• A seizure;
• Low levels of calcium in your blood;
• Muscle pain, tightness or contraction;
• Numbness or feeling tingly around your mouth;
• Shortness of breath;
• Signs of stomach bleeding;
• Swelling, rapid weight gain
