Usage

Synalar (Fluocinolone) is a topical prescription medication used to relieve skin inflammation and itching associated with severe forms of inflammatory skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and lichen planus. The active ingredient in Synalar is Fluocinolone. Fluocinolone belongs to the class of medication called a topical corticosteroid. It works by activating natural substances in the skin to reduce swelling, redness, and itching. Applying this medication to the affected area relieves the body of itching and peeling of the skin.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Fluocinolone cream are a burning sensation, stretchmarks, skin atrophy, and allergic contact dermatitis.

Stop using Synalar and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Elevated blood sugar in people that are treating diabetes;
• Redness, warmth, swelling, oozing, or severe irritation of any treated skin;
• Worsening of your skin condition

Warnings and Interactions

Fluocinolone topical comes as a cream for use on the skin only. It usually is applied one to four times a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. If you are using Fluocinolone for psoriasis, make sure you follow your doctor's instructions carefully. It should not be used for large areas of psoriasis or for long periods, as this can cause your symptoms to flare up afterward. Do not wrap or bandage the treated area unless your doctor tells you should. Such use may increase side effects. You should wash your hands after applying Synalar cream. You should call your doctor if the treated area gets worse or if burning, swelling, or oozing of pus develops. Do not discontinue treatment abruptly without talking to your doctor.

Before you start using Synalar, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Adrenal gland disorder;
• Diabetes mellitus;
• kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Previous allergic reaction to steroid creams;
• Skin infection

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown whether this fluocinolone cream is harmful to an unborn baby. You should use topical Fluocinolone with caution while breastfeeding. It may not be safe to breastfeed while using this medicine. You should discuss with your doctor about any risk. If you apply Synalar to your chest, avoid areas that may come into contact with the baby's mouth. There may be a drug interaction between Synalar and other drugs such as topical hydrocortisone, oral prednisolone, and cyclosporine.
