Canesten HC Cream (Clotrimazole/Hydrocortisone) is a topical prescription medication used to treat fungal infection including athlete’s foot, sweat rash, nappy rash, vaginal thrush and thrush infections of the penis. The active ingredients in the Canesten HC Cream are Clotrimazole and Hydrocortisone. The active constituents work differently to help treat fungal skin infections. Clotrimazole, an imidazole, destroys the fungi and some bacteria that cause skin infections. Hydrocortisone acetate is a mild steroid which reduces inflammation including swelling, redness and itching.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking Canesten HC Cream. The most common side effects of Canesten HC Cream may include:
• Acne formation on the skin;
• Changes in the skin color;
• Easy bruising;
• Skin atrophy;
• Skin itching;
• Stretched marks formation on the skin

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects including:
• Generalised facial acne;
• Unintended weight gain;
• Worsening of the condition

You should not take Canesten HC Cream if you are allergic to antifungal and steroid medication. It is comes as a cream and should be on the affected areas only. You should use according to your doctor’s prescription. You should wash your hands before and after using Canesten HC cream. If the cream is being used for athlete’s foot: ensure your feet are washed and dried properly especially the areas between the toes before applying the cream. Apply a small amount of the cream to the affected area two times a day, gently rubbing it in. It is recommended not use the cream for more than 7 days. Talk to your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or worsen after 7 days. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctors about your medical history especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Have diabetes mellitus;
• Have kidney problems;
• Have liver disease;
• Have severe skin infection or open wound on the skin;
• Intend to use the cream on the face

Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant. It is unknown if Canesten cream have harmful effects during pregnancy. You should consult your doctor during pregnancy and before breastfeeding. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Canesten HC cream and other steroid and antifungal medication that works in a similar way. You should keep the cream in a safe place and away from the reach of children.
