Actonel Information
Actonel (Generic name: Risedronate Sodium) is an approved new therapy used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Actonel is also used to treat osteoporosis for men improve bone mineral density, and a condition called Paget’s disease in men and women. Actonel is a bisphosphonates that works by slowing bone loss to increase bone mass and prevent bone fractures. Actonel must be taken in a specific way as prescribed by your doctor.
Actonel Side Effects
The most common Actonel side effects are constipation, diarrhea, gas, headache, joint or back pain, or stomach upset. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, confusion, difficult urination, muscle pain, numbness, vision changes, worsening heartburn, or symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Actonel Precautions
Do NOT take Actonel oral if you are allergic to Risedronate or any of the ingredients in Actonel medication. Before taking Actonel, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as low blood calcium (hypocalcemia), kidney disease, stomach ulcer, vitamin D efficiency, and etc. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. Because they may interact with Actonel drug, especially of: aspirin or NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen). Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
