Activella (Estradiol/Norethindrone Acetate) is a prescription combination medication that is used to treat certain moderate to severe symptoms of menopause. It is also used to prevent osteoporosis in women after menopause. Activella is a combination of estrogen and progestin hormones. This medication works by replacing estrogen and progestin in women who can no longer produce enough of these hormones.

We currently have the brand Activelle from Canada and Turkey manufactured by Novo Nordisk. It may come from other countries around the world. This medication is available in the strength of 0.5mg/0.1mg and 1mg/0.5mg tablets.
Common side effects include:
• Bloating;
• Breast tenderness;
• Headache;
• Nausea/vomiting;
• Stomach upset;
• Weight changes
Serious side effects include:
• Abnormal vaginal bleeding;
• Breast lumps;
• Mental/mood changes;
• Pain or swelling in the abdomen;
• Shortness of breath or pain in the chest;
• Severe stomach/abdominal pain;
• Swelling ankles/hands/feet
You should not use Activella if you are allergic to Estradiol/Norethindrone Acetate. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about the medications you are taking including OTC and herbal medications. Do not use Activella if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. You should not smoke or use tobacco. Estrogens combined with smoking increases your risk of blood clots, high blood pressure, and heart attack in women older than 35. This medication may cause blotchy, dark skin on the face. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning booths and sunlamps. This medication passes into breast milk; it may reduce the quality and amount of breast milk produced.
