Valcyte Indications  

Valcyte is an oral prescription drug used to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis among patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). It is also prescribed to prevent CMV disease in kidney, kidney-pancreas, or heart transplant patients at high risk.

Valcyte Mechanism of Action  

This deoxynucleoside analog CMV DNA polymerase inhibitor is a synthetic analog of 2’-deoxyguanosine, which is known to inhibit CMV replication in cell culture and in vivo. It halts the viral DNA synthesis of ganciclovir triphosphate.

How to Take Valcyte
