Dificid Information
Dificid (Fidaxomicin) is a macrolide antibiotic that is used for the treatment of diarrhea caused by an infection with Clostridium difficile. The symptoms of Dificid may include blood or mucus in your stool, persistent diarrhea and stomach or abdominal pain. Fidaxomicin is an antibiotic that fights bacteria and this medication works by killing sensitive bacteria. Dificid works in the intestines and is not absorbed by the body. This medication should only be used to treat this type of intestinal bacterial infection. It will not work for other types of infections including viral infections such as the common cold or flu.
Dificid is taken with or without food usually twice daily as directed by your doctor. This medication will work best if it is taken at evenly spaced times. Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if the symptoms go away. The common side effects of Dificid may include nausea, stomach or abdominal pain and vomiting. Talk to your doctor about your medical history before you start taking this medication.
