Description

Multaq Indications

Multaq (dronedarone) is an oral prescription used to lessen the risk of cardiovascular hospitalization among patients with irregular heart rhythm, such as paroxysmal/persistent atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. This is especially given to patients with associated cardiovascular risk factors including age 70 and above, diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, bad ejection fraction of the left ventricle, and prior cardiovascular accident.

This is available in Multaq 400 mg film-coated tablets.

Multaq Mechanism of Action

The exact mechanism of action of this antiarrhythmic is still unknown. However, it exhibits all Vaughan-William classes, namely potassium-channel blockers, sodium-channel blockers, calcium-channel blockers, and beta-blockers. It then indicates normal heart rate and heart rhythm.

How to Use Multaq

Before taking this drug, it is necessary to read the information leaflet or medication guide given by a healthcare professional. You must not take any medication unless you have understood all the information regarding it. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for further medical advice or additional details.

This tablet is only meant to be taken by mouth. You must administer your doses with a meal. Swallow the tablet as a whole and drink fluids right after. Do not chew, split, or crush the medication. Do not eat grapefruit or drink any grapefruit juice because they may increase your side effects.

To avoid skipping medications, make a dosage regimen. This is usually prescribed twice daily, once with breakfast and once with dinner. If you forget your Multaq dose, take it immediately, except if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not increase or decrease your dose and alter your frequency as they are based on your overall medical condition and/or response to treatment. You should also keep taking this oral drug until the doctor prescribes it.

Always be cautious for signs of a severe allergic reaction, including trouble breathing, severe dizziness, swelling of the face and neck, hives/itchiness, and skin rashes.

Some conditions or disorders may significantly impact how your system will respond to this treatment. Disclose complete medical history to your physician, especially any history of irregular heartbeat, liver disease, and lung disease. Additionally, it is necessary to talk about all the supplements, prescription medications, nonprescription medications, and herbal products you are using because of possible drug interactions.

You may experience QT prolongation while on this prescription drug. This heart rhythm irregularity could be considered a medical emergency if characterized by symptoms of fainting, severe dizziness, and fast/irregular heartbeat. You can avoid this condition by staying hydrated and avoiding water pills/diuretics. Your physician may also have your blood, potassium, and magnesium levels monitored from time to time.
