Indications

Savaysa is an anticoagulant medication used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib) that is not caused by a heart valve problem. This medication also treats blood clots in your legs associated with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) to prevent pulmonary embolism (PE).

Edoxaban tosilate is a factor Xa inhibitor that reduces activities that contribute to blood clotting such as platelet aggregation caused by prothrombinase. These inhibitory actions allow Savaysa to prevent blood clotting and strokes by reducing the production of factors that lead to the onset of these conditions.

Dosage and Administration

The dose of Savaysa that is prescribed will vary depending on the individual and type of thrombotic condition being treated. Follow all directions offered by your healthcare provider and read packaging instructions carefully to ensure the best therapeutic results during treatment. Do not stop taking Savaysa or change your dose unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.

  • Swallow tablet whole
  • Take with or without food
  • Do not take a double dose of Savaysa to make up for a missed dose
  • Temporarily stop using Savaysa at least 24 hours before receiving surgery
  • Store at room temperature away from children and pets

To treat nonvalvular AFib:

  • Most adults take 60mg once a day
  • Patients with reduced creatinine clearance should take 30mg once daily

Treatment for DVT and PE:

  • After 5 to 10 days of initial treatment with a parenteral anticoagulant, adults should take 60mg of Savaysa once a day
  • Patients with reduced creatinine clearance should only take 30mg once a day

Transitioning from other anticoagulant medications to Savaysa:

  • Wait for your blood clotting test to be less than or equal to 2.5 after using warfarin before taking Savaysa
  • For other oral anticoagulants, take Savaysa at the same time as your next scheduled dose
  • Start Savaysa at the time of your next dose after stopping a low molecular weight heparin
  • Start Savaysa four hours after stopping using an unfractionated heparin infusion
