Usage

Proctofoam HC Foam (Hydrocortisone 1%/Pramoxine 1%) is a prescription topical medicine used for the temporary relief of rectal inflammation, itching, pain, and swelling associated with hemorrhoids, fissures, proctitis, and other conditions of the anus and rectum. It is a combination medicine with Hydrocortisone and Pramoxine as active constituents. Hydrocortisone is a steroid, while Pramoxine is anesthesia. Pramoxine numbs the treated area due to its anesthetic effects, while hydrocortisone reduces inflammation in the area. Effective treatment of hemorrhoids and anal fissures prevents further complications or bleeding.

The common side effects of Proctofoam HC Foam are temporary burning sensation at the site of application, itching, dryness, skin atrophy, local irritation, and skin dryness.

Before using this medication, inform your doctor if you are allergic to hydrocortisone, Pramoxine, or any ingredient. It is a topical foam that should be applied to the affected area only. Follow your doctor's prescription label carefully. Wash your hands before and after use. Shake the aerosol container well before using. Insert one full applicator into the anus 2 or 3 times daily and after each bowel movement. You may also place some of the foam on a perianal pad and apply it to the external area of the anus as needed to relieve pain and itching. Do not miss your clinic appointment, and inform your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition.

Before you start using Proctofoam HC Foam, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• An active infection, abscess, extensive fistulas, or sinus tracts in the bowel;
• Diabetes mellitus;

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Proctofoam should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. If you become pregnant while using this medication, contact your doctor immediately. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. There may be a drug interaction between Proctofoam HC Foam and other drugs, such as antidiabetics and topical steroid medications. Keep the aerosol away from fire and from children's reach.
