Sprycel Information
Sprycel (Dasatinib) is used to treat certain types of cancer (chronic myeloid leukemia-CML, acute lymphoblastic leukemia-ALL). Dasatinib belongs to the class of medications called protein-tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Dasatinib works by inhibiting the activity of proteins that are responsible for the uncontrolled growth of leukemia cells. By inhibiting these proteins, Dasatinib kills the leukemia cells in the bone marrow and allows normal blood cells to be produced. It is used to treat adults with Philadelphia chromosome positive (Ph+) chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). It is also used to treat adults with Philadelphia chromosome positive (Ph+) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) who have not responded or tolerated other treatments. Do not take this medication if you are allergic. Talk to your medical professional if you have a history of bleeding problems, current/recent infection, heart problems (irregular heartbeat), liver problems (hepatitis B). Dasatinib may cause a condition that affects the heart rhythm (QT prolongation). QT prolongation can rarely cause serious (rarely fatal) fast/irregular heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, fainting) that need medical attention right away. Take this medication as directed by your doctor. Consult your doctor for any possible side effects and precautions. If you experience any serious side effects, contact your doctor promptly.
