Urispas Information

Urispas Tablets (flavoxate hydrochloride) belong to a group of medicines which relieve and prevent muscle spasms. Urispas contains an anti-spasmodic which works by inhibiting bladder contractions in the urinary tract in addition to reducing associated pain. Urispas is used to treat muscle spasms of the urinary tract which may be a result of inflammation of the bladder, prostate gland or urethra. Urispas can also be used to relieve symptoms which may occur as a result of surgery, cystoscopy or catheterisation such as painful urination, excessive urination at night and the inability to control urine flow.

Urispas Side Effects

The most common side effects of Urispas may include nausea, vomiting, dry mouth; headache, dizziness, drowsiness; pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest; confusion, nervousness; or rash or itching. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Eye pain;
• Chest pain, fast or pounding heartbeat;
• Difficult/painful urination;
• Mental or mood changes (such as confusion);
• Nausea, vomiting, constipation that doesn't go away;
• Signs of infection (such as sore throat that doesn't go away, fever).

Urispas Precautions

Do not use Urispas if you are allergic to flavoxate hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine; or if you have a gastrointestinal disease that affects the normal passage of food (obstruction); have an gastro-intestinal bleeding; have a muscular inability to swallow; are not able to completely empty your bladder (urinary retention); are being treated for an eye disease called glaucoma; have a disease which causes general weakness of the muscles. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have impaired kidney function or glaucoma. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Urispas and other medications. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Urispas may cause blurred vision and may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert and able to see clearly. Urispas contains lactose. If you have been told by your doctor or pharmacist that you have intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.
